GRAN Canaria, Spain is the largest of the Canary Islands located off the African coast. To have a tour in Gran Canaria, it is the best that you book at either Expedia or Travelocity beforehand because their client travel agencies are among the most reputable in the world. And when you make your reservation either online or by calling their customer service, make sure you do it at least two months ahead. Gran Canaria is so famous as a tourist spot that hotels and tours there are filled up a month ahead. And don’t worry about costly tours, customer service staff of either Expedia or Travelocity will give you the best discounts there are. I know, I used to be a customer service staff of Expedia.
Being in the Canary Islands, the most attractive sights there are the beaches. Gran Canaria, Spain is indeed livelier than other smaller islands in the archipelago like
Lanzarote. If your group wants to break away from the arranged tour so you can get a taste of the island by yourself, then hop in an air-conditioned bus. The bus can let you interrelate with the locals who will graciously point to you all the interesting spots Gran Canaria can offer. The hang of this though is that the locals barely understand English so you’ll really have an advantage if you come from mainland Spain. There is also an impending plan to create railway tracks around
Gran Canaria but why wait for that when you can visit the place now?
Gran Canaria, Spain is declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. As such, littering is strictly prohibited here. Off road vehicles are off limits to paved roads. And there are a number of other rules but they don’t make your stay here annoying, they’ll instead make your vacation here neater, right?
One of the attractions available for tourists is sightseeing in the Maspalomas dunes. It is a group of sand waves extending up to 4 kilometers long and strategically located those dunes is an oasis resort. The oasis resort is actually a former lagoon of seawater now converted into a high end tourist spot. Portions of the lagoon remain and you from your hotel room, you can actually see birds migrating from Europe drop by here en route to the African mainland.
The dunes themselves, covering a total of 400 hectares, are a spectacle. The Maspalomas dunes is one of the reasons why UNESCO declared the whole island of
Gran Canaria as a UNESCO biosphere reserve. You are allowed to cross them only on foot or by camel. So if you are from Europe or the US and you haven’t seen any camel yet, this is the time of your life. While boarding your camel, you will pretty encounter lots of fauna species unique only to the Maspalomas sand dunes. Be forewarned though that you are not allowed to uproot let alone take a sample of it. You will also see lizards common only to deserts which you may have seen only on National Geographic. This is one tour you may never pass.
